LSU-Alabama rematch for BCS title game - yawn... last game was the WORST college game I've seen...count me OUT!
Of course ESPN and the computers put LSU-Alabama in for a rematch (ESPN has the TV rights to the SEC games).
Nobody will watch this game except the SEC.

Man Utd midfielder Anderson out until February - ok let's say it together.. "Sneijder" #mufc
...Rooney says he can play wherever, but Rooney needs to stay at center forward where he is deadly. The primary weakness has been a top class attacking midfielder. Cleverly is too young and Anderson was not really the answer. (Who among us ever really thought Anderson was the answer?)
Giggs has lost a few steps and Carrick/Fletcher are perect holding-midfielders. Strikers, Defenders, Wingers...we are stacked...but Sneijder (or even Modric) is a piece that will help put it all together. Just sayin'

Liverpool minority owner LeBron James to attend Liverpool match against United - (another reason to dislike Liverpool)
.... Maybe LeBron's tendency to disappear and/or choke in the final moments of big games will rub off on Liverpool...not that United need the help. Go United!

NCAA finds no major violations against Auburn regarding Cam Newton - The ESPN/NCAA whitewash is complete.
.... Does this surprise anyone? ESPN has a financial interest in maintaining the "integrity" of the SEC because of the megabucks it is paying for exclusive broadcasting rights...meanwhile the Southern Cal investigation took the NCAA SEVEN years until they found something and put the hammer down.

Report: Stoke City v Manchester United - The thugs win the day....
United could have been much better, but everything they say about Stoke is true...thugs. They kicked the hell out of United for ten minutes in the beginning including a EASY penalty that should have been called. Woodgate pushed Chicha in the back in the box and he crashed into the keeper. Watching Stoke grab jerseys as United players were rushing by was a joke.
Another easy penalty when Shawcross deflected a shot with his arm and the linesman called offside on a player (Owen) who was not even active in the play. (And by the way, linesman, it was a SHOT ON GOAL, not a pass)
United looked disconnected and they just weren't moving as quickly as the last 5 matches. But when the referee establishes that a game will be played according to beer-league rules...you have to respond. Roy Keane, we needed you today....Oh well. Marching on....

Sorry Glazer haters: Record profits for Manchester United | Debt drops even further -
.... once again the idiots who wanted to run the Glazers out of town have yet again been shown why they don't have the intelligence to run a world class organization.
Those stupid green protest scarves of Newton Heath are nowhere to be seen at Old Trafford these days....United are the richest, the most profitable and the most followed football club in the world...for a reason: Sound ownership, Legendary management, class players (for the most part), and a top youth development program.
For all you posers, (City), "Form is temporary, Class is permanent"

Owen Hargreaves joins Man City --- and he won't get twenty minutes playing time between now and January.
... not a loss since he was a complete BUST for United when they offered him the opportunity to resurrect his career. ELEVEN MINUTES played in TWO YEARS for United. No wonder they let him go on a free....

Champions League draw: City handed stern Champions League test - ha ha!
.... United's group looks fairly routine without crazy travel or weather (although Romania may be a problem if they play away late in the stage). Barcelona get a cakewalk draw....of course.

Chelsea fails to impress, cannot manage a goal versus Stoke in a 0-0 draw- big teams have a slow start in 2011
Three of the "Big 5" teams in the league are sputtering out of the gate. Liverpool couldn't manage to capitalize on a clearly inferior Sunderland team, Arsenal looked completely toothless (and dubious), now Chelsea are held away at Stoke, despite being far better. Hopefully United can be the one big team to start strong....
But let's not delude ourselves....there will only be these 5 or 6 (Spurs) teams competing in April for the title....(Although Arsenal may be in BIG trouble if Nasri leaves too..)

United beats Barcelona 2-1. Oh well I'll take it. See you in the CL final.
A great moment was when the announcers were gushing over the "beautiful " passing and the "ole's"
from the Barca crowd.
Then right on cue, its, "Cleverly with the intercept....he has Owen in the clear....GOAL United!"
It was hilarious. Pre-season yes, but damn funny. What United lacked was speed in the midfield in the past 2 matches with Barca. With a Cleverly, Nani, Young and Valencia racing on the counter attack...Barcalona's impudent high line can be exploited.
While passing is nice, you will be picked apart with a speedy counter. And it seems Fergie has got his speed. (Although Sneijder would still be nice.....)
You can have your 66% of the possession. But 3 points is better. See what pretty passing has done for Arsenal.

United's Evra: Nasri will win trophies at United
Best quote of the summer from United defender Patrice Evra when he related his conversation he had with Arsenal's Samir Nasri. While talking about his future, Evra said:
"You're a prince now, but if you want to be a king, then you need to play for Man United."
Brutal but true.

Manchester City in deal to rename Eastlands - Who cares...its still City's home and they suck!
.......... so the Arab dude who bought City pours almost $2billion USD (yes kids, that's BILLION) into City and no big star (except Tevez who could only put up with 2 years) wants to go there and they have one trophy to show for it.
I don't care how much money they have, they are still City and they will still be a second-tier club. They will never have sustained success. Why? Because they are City, that's why. If some megastar wants to play in England it's three clubs.... United, Chelsea and Liverpool a distant third.
Give them $5 billion... I don't care.
By the way, City lost $200 million (US) last year.... still bleeding money. Their rise to temporary limited success will be a blip on the radar and once again the highlight of their season will be trying to secure a point from United at the Manchester derby.

US Women pull off a stunner with a 122nd minute equalizer and a shoot-out win. Bye bye Samba Girls!
.... Ok I'll admit that I'm a bit football starved so the women's game will have to suffice (sorry guys, MLS is almost as unwatchable as the NBA). But what these women lack in overall talent, the drama is every bit as tense as any match you have seen. And this match had it all.
Great match that saw the US women overcome yet another howler of a call by an official (far too many of these lately) that saw Brazil get another chance at a penalty that had already been saved by Hope Solo (encroachment was the call, which is just about the most pathetic call a ref can make).
Today Brazil looked much like Barcelona when they played Madrid in the UEFA Champions League; diving, complaining, faking injury. Shameful. But at least this time, the cheaters lost and a bad call did not end up being the game winning moment. By the end of the match, the entire stadium, except for the few hundred Brazil fans, was squarely on the side of the Americans. When Wambach scored the equalizer, the stadium erupted like it was being played the USA.
Good stuff.

Ashley Young joins United from Villa - United are getting younger and loading up!
.... 25 years old, can play either wing or as an attacking central midfielder behind the strikers and in front of a holding midfielder like Fletcher or Carrick.
Another good signing on paper for the Reds. A midfield of Nani, Young, Giggs/Fletcher/Carrick, and Valencia looks pretty good. United lacked pace up the middle so don't be surprised if Young is used in the center from the start.
Men behaving badly - but good technique on the flying kick!
.... I'm not a forensic expert, but I think the guy on the far right of the picture is getting ready for a healthy dose of some soccer cleats to the midsection. This is South American Cup Final aftermath. Watch the video as it is a good example of the mob mentality. Near the end of the video, everything seems to be calmed down until the Penarol player (in the picture) does his best Jackie Chan impression.
But even more interesting is watch the crowd literally start hopping and swarming like somebody kicked over a fire ant nest. Classic.

John Edwards Indicted: Corruption, lies and $1 million to his mistress. Will Obama pardon him?
..... While we are all fixated on Anthony Weiner having phone sex with women (yes another blatant lie to America only remedied by being caught), we have the final chapter of what might be the biggest fall from political grace in American political history going largely unnoticed.
John Edwards faces prison time over his use of campaign funds to cover up cheating on his cancer-stricken wife and fathering a love child.
He deserves everything he is going to get.
Some may say that Nixon was a bigger fall, but Nixon was somewhat redeemed by his public service post-Watergate and became a sympathetic people to many prior to his death(still a villain to many as well). But Nixon had Ford to pardon him; so will Obama pardon Edwards? Hardly...touching Edwards now would be political suicide right before the 2012 election.
The media loved him, the liberal press worshiped him and the Democrats saw him as an up and coming face of the new Democratic Party. I can't even say this is sad, except for his children who unfortunately will be known as his children. Even if they accomplish anything in life, they will always be the "child of disgraced former presidential candidate John Edwards."
If convicted, he loses his freedom, what is left of his personal life and, most importantly for me, his license to practice law.

Berbatov set to quit Man Utd after final axe. I don't blame him.
...
Look, everyone knew Chicharito was a huge part of the season. But lest we forget, while Chicharito was getting up to speed and Rooney was pouting about his contract, Berba was quietly carrying the team.
Personally, I think Fergie got it all wrong only letting Berbatov start 5 of the last 20 matches.
He is the manager and you have to respect his decisions, but think what an uproar there would be if Kevin Durant wasn't even allowed to suit up in the NBA playoffs? I mean, Ferguson will do it his own way and he has a warehouse full trophies to prove it, but occasionally you get one wrong and this was a huge error in my mind.
Berbatov not even on the bench for the Final? Michael Owen instead? The man scored 20 goals in the toughest league in the world. There is something more to this than football, because it has to be one of the stupidest decisions by Ferguson in a long time.

Man United's Paul Scholes may hang up his boots. A true legend.
..
He is already a legend. He has won (I believe) every trophy a club player could possibly win. This EPL title is his 10th. If United beat Barca then he will have 3 Champions League trophies. Like last year, he will only stay if he thinks he can contribute and we should respect any decision he makes because he has earned it.

Man United's commercial revenue up 30 percent - Glazer haters get to the back of the bus!
MANCHESTER, England (Reuters) -- Manchester United's strong on-field season has been accompanied by a 30 percent rise in commercial revenue, according to its latest quarterly financial results released on Friday.
Turnover for Manchester United Ltd in the three months to the end of March rose one percent to 75.2 million pounds compared to the same period last year, driven by the large rise in commercial revenue.
Commercial revenue for the period was 24.9 million pounds ($40.5 million), taking the nine-month total to 75.3 million and putting the Premier League leaders on track to break the 100 million-pound mark for the first time when full-year results are released.
United have been increasing their territory-specific commercial ventures, such as mobile phone service deals in single countries.
"The strength of the new commercial strategy is demonstrated in very strong revenue growth," a United spokesman said. "The combination of global partnerships and deals that relate to individual countries has delivered a significant rise in income."
United are one point away from a record 19th English league title, which they can secure with a draw at Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, while they have a chance of further silverware when they take on Barcelona in the Champions League final on May 28.
